Reflection blog 2

Since my last reflection blog I am at 26 posts and currently working on posts 26-32. My action plan is to do some extra work and even out my revision for every subject as it has been the reason for my non-consistent blogging. Attending workshops is also one of the things I will be doing over the next few weeks to improve my posts in order to achieve my desired grade. I will aim to do a few posts every 2-3 days. Our group hopes to finish filming by Thursday 12th and start editing in order to achieve our coursework deadline.

Comment on pitch feedback

Since the presentation our group has done a few of the scenes of the main character in school. The main character is wearing tracksuit bottoms and casual sportswear, and his hair wasn't slicked back but as it normally is. We filmed him walking into school and meeting with his girlfriend. We didn't take pictures of what the main character was wearing as we didn't remember but when we are filming next time we will take some pictures of clothes/props etc.

Changing the blog design

Adding a link for our Instagram to our blog, so that everyone can see what's going our during our shoots.
Adding gadgets such as translate to make our blog more diverse for people of other countries.
Changing the way the layout is and the background with the use of the lights to reflect to our characters' personality idea of '2 FACED' and the popularity in school.
The final look of our blog

Animated storyboard

The main protagonist comes home from a long day at work where he finds a lot of bottles and pills sprawled on the table. He isn't happy about what he has found.
Our protagonist then goes to sleep, and we can see flashbacks of his mother drinking and taking pills throughout the night.
We can see his mother passed out on the bed, and despite the fact that he is not happy that she's been drinking he makes her tea and takes it upstairs for her.
He takes the tea up to his mother but she wakes up in pain and runs to the toilet, ignoring him.
She goes to throw up. Our character goes downstairs and has his transformation, and leaves the house for school.
He takes his journey to school, where he goes and meets with his popular girlfriend.

Title credits:

  • The title credits will be shown over the scenes at the beginning when he comes home and on his way to school.
  • The title of the movie will be shown at the end
  • We will have sound effects (e.g. school bell ringing) during the title sequence
  • We will most likely have music over our title sequence that changes as our character makes his transformation. Also music to suit the mood.

Production schedule

This is roughly our production schedule (along with pre-production and post-production) which we are trying to stick to.

Blogging Task 31 - Costume

Blogging Task 30 - Location Activity

When recording our film we will have 3 Locations. Our film will start in the characters home, a suburban "white picket" fence style house, typical in many american high school films. This will hopefully be noticed by the audience in order for our film to be a stereotypical high school film. We then will be showing the characters journey to high school, this will entail him on public transpport and walking down the streets. This will give us a chance to incorporate many different shots, including establishing and tracking shots. In the journey sequence will also show the transition the characters makes from his home life to his school life. We will finally end our films in a high school environment, this will be shown through other students and stereotypical features such as a library, lockers and classrooms.

Blogging Task 29 - Target Audience

Target Audience

When researching into our target audience for our media project, we looked into films such as "Clueless", "Grease", "Easy A"and"10 thing i hate about you" as they were all released in different decades.

Through these Profiles thats i have looked at, we have found out that they are all targeted at women. This is very stereo typical of high school dramas, as they have always been seen as "girly" films. However, it showed that even though some of the films were released decades before, they still have the exact same target audience. This shows that even though the genre is about teenagers in high school, the target audience is an older generation. Also when comparing our film to the ones we have researched into, the leader star is mostly a girl. This means that the film will be from a girl's perspective, which wouldn't appeal to boys, which is why they are all targeted at females. For our film we will have a male lead, which i believe would enhance the amount of males who would want to watch our film.

As we have found out that older generations are more likely to watch high school dramas, because they are able to reminisce on their teenage years. The entertainment that they would get from this would have to be a comedic film, and not highlighting serious issue that our media film would. Finally, though these profiles have gave us a lot of information about previous high school drama target audience, they still don't reflect society on the whole. This leads us to make our audience targeted at both male/females on the basis that we do have a male as the lead role and aged 15-25 as it wouldn't appeal to older people as they wouldn't want to reminisce on serious issues such as alcoholism. This would more appeal to a younger generation as they  could be going through similar issues, making it more relatable.

Blogging Task 28 - Media Texts

Influences For Our Film

This film has influenced our high school drama as it shows the typical high school jock. It highlights the whole high school experience from the clothes teenagers wear to how they all interact with each other, embodies exactly what we want our film to be.

Grease is a prime example of the high school jock having a dual personality. Our story line shows our main character, a jock, struggling at home due to his mothers alcohol addiction, but when at school his ego shines through and is a normal regular. This is shown in grease when he act completely different when with different characters.

Influences for our film

In our film, the main character leads a double life. TV shows such as Revenge are the main inspiration for this. Although our plot line is nothing like the plot line of Revenge, the idea of our main character is very much the same. In this show the main character has a double identity to a very different level from our main character - she has a name change and initially a whole personality change in order to avenge her father. It's not a teen drama however the initial idea of parent/child is there.

Another influence is 'The Princess Diaries' which shows how 'Mia' has to keep the secret of her royal background from everyone in her high school. It's similar to our plot of the main protagonist leading two different lives outside of school and inside school.

Grease is a movie which inspired the idea of our title sequence, as it shows the main male protagonist in two very different lights - the nice boy when he's alone with a girl and the traditional American 'douchebag' in school with his friends.
