Production Reflection

As we began filming we started with the scenes that required us being in college. After reviewing the days footage we saw that the settings on the camera were not correct, causing the footage to appear off focused. When we re-filmed this footage we not only changed our main actor but his clothing and opted to loose a prop, being the sunglasses as the actors hair would now symbolise the shift in personality that we tried to portray through the use of sunglasses previously.

Filming at location #2 (the main characters home) we carefully reviewed footage on set to ensure that what we had was usable. Throughout the day we had to re-film certain shots due to bad lighting. 

Other than the stated issues we had during filming we were able to learn from them mistakes and improve shots as we went along during the times we scheduled filming.

This gif shows the process of adding sound/music onto our final product. We used both copy right free music from soundcloud and foley music from garage band, to heighten realism in our film. These foley sounds included doors closing and the sound of putting clothes on.

Director:

Me: When filming, specially for a title sequence of a film, what do you want to capture for the audience?

Director: As we are only filming 2/3 minutes of the entire film, it makes it more difficult to show what is going was the initial story line. We have to show clearly what the story line is and introduce each character and their role instantly.

Me: While filming the title sequence for '2-Faced' what do you want the audience to understand of the characters story?

Director: Though we don't want to make the story line too confusing, we still want to generate an interesting story. We decided on creating a transformation of our character, both their personality and image will change. This is the most important part of our film so we want the audience to easily understand it.

Me: If you had the opportunity to film the rest of '2-Faced' would you?

Yes, defiantly! I feel like we have created a great story line here, as it is very unusual and challenges the stereotypical high school drama. High school drama's are very popular, so our twisted new version of the genre may be just enough to receive some recognition.

Reflection on editing/filming

Since we have finished our filming, I believe that we have done exceptionally well with our time management - despite that fact that we have had a member of our group drop out, and we had to re-film a lot of the film. I believe that the portrayal of our main character was relatively good and that we managed well with the costumes and props, although I do think that baseball jackets etc. would have been much better.
As for the location, I think that we couldn't have got a better location for our shootings. The house was very good and portrayed very good mise-en-scene in relation to props and lighting. Furthermore, the weather for our last shooting was very good and we managed to get a lot of natural lighting. We used some artificial lighting for the 'locker scene' because the location was too dark but it was relatively good and we are all happy with the way that the final cut came out.

Public feedback

Gathering feedback from people in our class etc. we have found that our story line is understandable, however we need to re-edit it and cut down more stuff as it is too long

For this locker scene, we used artificial lighting to create the hallway more bright. We also used props such as the folder, ring, scholarship letter.

Our main character going to the barbers as a part of his transformation in becoming the popular boy at school. We used a local barbers for this scene, which allowed us to use their barber shop.

Creating and Editing the Soundtrack

We have made our soundtrack using Garageband. We have sourced usable tracks from soundcloud to convey both emotions in our soundtrack, beginning quite sad and emotional and then the other being a more up beat, happier tone. Through the use of Garageband we were also able to add folley sounds such as doors closing and the removing of clothing to make the scene seem more realistic. These folley sounds play over the soundtrack and are incorporated to not dominate the music.

Soundtrack production

I personally took the role of creating the music and soundtrack for the title sequence, as well as taking all photos when filming and editing. These are screenshots of the first draft of our soundtrack, through which I added some Foley Sounds and an up-beat sound for our characters transformation.

Target audience

Looking for target audiences, we have looked at different websites which recommend factors for target audience: 

From this, and previous research we established that our target audience would most likely be aged from 14-25, and that the gender would be a mix between male and female. Our geographic target audience is worldwide teenagers, pre-teens and young adults (as our production is large-scale).

Fonts

Taking into account inspirations from movies such as Mean Girls, Clueless and American Pie our title sequence would most likely have a big, bold font in either black or white.

Furthermore, we can use fonts such as these to relate to the idea of high school

 And these other ones as they are similar to what high school dramas use

Slightly different feel from what we had seen in the pitch. We need to make sure we make clear what the storyline is. The idea of the storyline is really good and our teacher is happy about that because it's a storyline she has never seen this before. She's getting the idea that he's not going to be the popular boy, and that we need more scenes with him changing his persona/clothes etc. It's feeling more like a British drama than an American personality double life change in him. 

Need to do:

• The missing scene of him changing his clothes, hair and transforming into the popular boy (Will be filmed in college)

Editing our rough cut

Today we're editing the shots that we took last week for our rough cut using Final Cut Pro in th the media room in college. 

Whilst one member of our group is editing the other two are spending time blogging and planning what we're going to do for our next filming session. 

Reflection blog 2

Since my last reflection blog I am at 26 posts and currently working on posts 26-32. My action plan is to do some extra work and even out my revision for every subject as it has been the reason for my non-consistent blogging. Attending workshops is also one of the things I will be doing over the next few weeks to improve my posts in order to achieve my desired grade. I will aim to do a few posts every 2-3 days. Our group hopes to finish filming by Thursday 12th and start editing in order to achieve our coursework deadline.

Since the presentation our group has done a few of the scenes of the main character in school. The main character is wearing tracksuit bottoms and casual sportswear, and his hair wasn't slicked back but as it normally is. We filmed him walking into school and meeting with his girlfriend. We didn't take pictures of what the main character was wearing as we didn't remember but when we are filming next time we will take some pictures of clothes/props etc.
